India will host the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting on May 26, with the West Asia conflict, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the potential global impact of the crisis, and a free and open Indo-Pacific high on the agenda.The meeting, which comes days after US President Donald Trump’s visit to China, will be hosted by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.It will be attended by Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio.Rubio is arriving in India tomorrow for bilateral talks.An MEA statement said, “In keeping with the Quad vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific, the ministers will build on discussions held in Washington DC on July 1, 2025. They will exchange views on advancing Quad cooperation across priority areas, review progress on ongoing initiatives and reflect on recent developments in the Indo-Pacific region and other international issues of mutual concern.”It added that during their visit to New Delhi, the Foreign Ministers of Australia, Japan and the US Secretary of State are also expected to hold bilateral meetings with the External Affairs Minister and call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor today said Rubio had taken off for India. “Just got a call from Secretary Rubio — he’s taking off for India right now! Excited for this important trip!”
