The Centre has notified the appointment of Justice Lisa Gill of the Andhra Pradesh High Court as the new Chief Justice of the same high court.“In exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, the President is pleased to appoint Smt. Justice Lisa Gill, Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court (Parent High Court: Punjab and Haryana) as Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court with effect from 25.04.2026 consequent upon the retirement of Shri Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur on 24.04.2026,” the Department of Justice said on Wednesday.The Supreme Court Collegium led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant had on February 26 recommended the appointment of Justice Gill – then a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court — as the Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court.Justice Gill – who first joined the Andhra Pradesh High Court as a puisne judge – will now take over as its Chief Justice on April 25, when the incumbent Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur demits office.Justice Gill – who holds LL.B. and LL.M. degrees from the Punjab University – got enrolled as an advocate in 1990 and practised at the Punjab and Haryana High Court handling criminal, civil, service, revenue and constitutional matters.She was appointed as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on March 31, 2014.
