Following the ED raids on Punjab minister Sanjeev Arora’s premises in Chandigarh and Delhi, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal likened Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Mughal emperor Aurangzeb and said Punjab would fight his “atrocities” and would give him a reply in the 2027 state Assembly poll.Addressing mediapersons, Kejriwal said the job of the ED was to stop and investigate money laundering in the country. “If the ED carries out its action with this purpose, we have no problem. However, what we have seen is that ever since ‘Modi raj’ (PM Modi’s regime) began, the CBI no longer works to check corruption and the ED no longer works to stop money laundering. They only work to break other parties, intimidate and threaten their leaders, and force them to join the BJP,” he said.Dubbing the raids as pressure tactics on Arora to join the BJP, Kejriwal said similar raids were conducted on Ashok Mittal’s premises too.“Raids continued at Mittal’s residence for three days. After that, Mittal joined the BJP. The raids then stopped and the entire matter was settled,” he said. The former Delhi CM said, “Arora did not join the BJP. That day, immense pressure was put on him to do so. Had he joined the BJP that day, the ED would not have raided today. Today’s ED raids have happened to teach him a lesson for not joining the saffron party — either join the BJP or get arrested.”He said injustice was being meted out to the people of Punjab. Attempts were made to crush the people over the past four years. PM Modi also tried to bring the three “black” farm laws in Punjab, he said.“PM Modi had to bow before the protest of Punjab’s farmers. For the past four years, thousands of crores meant for rural development and for building village roads connected to mandis have been stopped by the PM,” he alleged. He claimed that attempts were made to take over Panjab University; there were attempts to snatch Chandigarh away from Punjab and transfer it to Haryana, attempts were being made to rob Punjab’s of its waters; there were attempts to capture the Bhakra Beas Management Board and there were countless such other instances where the Central Government and PM Modi wronged the people of Punjab.Meanwhile, in a post on X, he wrote, “In every household in Punjab, there’s talk of ED raids. The way Modi ji and the BJP are shoving Punjab around; people are giving them an earful of abuse. Even the BJP folks themselves are badmouthing the BJP plenty. Modi ji never really understood Punjab at all. A Punjabi will give you everything he has out of love, but if you shove him around, he’ll hit back with full force. Modi ji, go ahead and carry out ED raids — BJP’s deposits on all its seats will get forfeited. The ones you arrest will be out in four days, but the BJP won’t be fit to set foot in Punjab for the next 20 years.”Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the end of the “BJP-ED nexus” would begin from Punjab itself.During his “Shukrana Yatra”, Mann questioned the BJP-led Centre over repeated ED raids on AAP leaders, asserting that Punjab would never surrender before what he termed “politics of intimidation and vendetta”.Party’s Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia said, “PM Modi has now sent everyone — from the ED Director to the peon — to Punjab. However, he should remember that even Aurangzeb, sitting in Delhi, could not make Punjab bow down. The more you try to crush Punjab, the more it rises to fight dictatorship.”
