Hamilton, a boyhood Arsenal supporter, spilled the beans on his split allegiances ahead of this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix.

He said: “For me, it’s tied with England, honestly, Brazil has always been my favourite team.

“Growing up in England, I used to love watching Brazil play. I think it’s the colours, the culture, and the players always just looked the most skilled, they were so cool.

“I just appreciate where they come from. Many of the players come from the streets where they play with no shoes and there’s something quite special about Brazilian culture.”

The likes of legendary striker Ronaldo, Cafu, Roberto Carlos, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho were representing the Selecao while Hamilton was growing up so there’s no wonder he’s an admirer of the football team.

However supporting two teams at the World Cup is surely not allowed.

Hamilton’s childhood hero was Brazilian driver and three-time world champion Ayrton Senna, who died tragically in a crash in 1994.

He paid tribute to him by waving the country’s flag after winning at Interlagos in 2021.

Hamilton is also friends with Brazilian icon Neymar, who was picked for this summer’s tournament by Carlo Ancelotti.

But the iconic driver could be left at a crossroads if the Three Lions end up facing Brazil.

There is a chance we get a Thomas Tuchel v Ancelotti quarter-final in what would be a blockbuster renewal of a historic rivalry between the nations.

The Three Lions have never defeated the Selecao at an international tournament.

England’s overall record against Brazil is terrible, with four wins, 11 draws, and 12 losses on their record.

The former Real Madrid gaffer left a host of notable players out of his first major tournament squad including Chelsea player of the year Joao Pedro and tournament regular Richarlison.
