Katie suffered a horrific acid attack in 2008 that left her with dire facial injuries.

The attack, orchestrated by her ex boyfriend, caused significant damage to her face and eyesight, and she continues to need medical treatment and operations to ease the pains caused by scar tissue.

TV star and activist Katie recently took to Instagram to share she was unexpectedly having to be driven to hospital by her husband Richard Sutton, 42.

Katie told fans she had been experiencing dreadful pain in her eye and made the decision to get it checked out.

The author explained she’s previously ignored similar pain and ended up with “detached retinas” – a serious problem that needs to be treated quickly to stop it permanently affecting your sight, according to the NHS.

Updating her fans, Katie said: “My day has not turned out how I expected. I’m supposed to be on a course today actually.

“I’ve been training for something for like over a year now. But I had to cancel that course because I’m having like serve pain in my eye and I’ve got to go into my eye hospital.”

Katie continued: “Normally I just live with pain because I’ve got a weird pain threshold and I ignore it but last time I did that my retinas actually detached.

“So learning from my mistakes, unfortunately I’ve had to give up my place on the course for today.”

After Katie’s attack, she told The Jattvibe she was lucky to have survived, but there was an agonising road to recovery ahead to rebuild her face and her life – her injuries have required more than 400 operations since that day.

For the first two years following the attack, Katie had to wear a clear plastic mask on her face.

In the years since she has blazed a trail, pushing for greater diversity in public life and the TV industry.
