Gomes is one of the players who looks more likely to leave Wolves following the confirmation of their relegation earlier this week.

He has attracted a lot of interest from Europe’s top clubs.

Wolves value him at £40m after signing the Brazilian for £15m from Flamengo in 2023.

Diego Simeone‘s side will look to get the deal done before other big clubs come knocking.

Atleti recently qualified for the Champions League semi-final and are set to face Arsenal over two legs, with the first on Wednesday.

Last Saturday they lost the Copa Del Rey final to Real Sociedad on penalties.

It was previously reported that United also had an interest in Gomes.

According to The Athletic, the club are already monitoring nine stars as potential options, especially in central areas of the pitch.

Gomes is said to be one of them, seen as a budget option with already-relegated Wolves likely to be forced to part ways with the Brazil international.

The 25-year-old has played 126 times for the Midlands side but it is hard to imagine him sticking around in the Championship, especially if he hopes to add to his ten appearances for his nation.

Another name included on United’s supposed nine-player transfer target list is Brighton’s Cameroonian midfielder Carlos Baleba – who the club pursued last summer.

The Cameroonian midfielder was courted by Ruben Amorim and Co last summer, but the move never materialised after it was revealed Brighton were hoping for a fee in excess of £100million.

He has not hit the heights of last year this season, and will be a name that the club will likely test the waters for at a more reasonable price.

Another midfield target on the list is Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, who has drawn interest from many big clubs over the past year.

His agent confirmed he is on the radar of top Premier League clubs earlier this month, and a move could be realistic if United are willing to fork out his considerable transfer fee, expected to be at least in the region of £80million.

Other names on United’s reported list of midfield targets included Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, Alex Scott, Mateus Fernandes and Aurelien Tchouameni.
