IT HAS been a summer of change at Newcastle – and it was the same when it came to their kit during a showdown with Bayer Leverkusen.

And Bruno Guimaraes followed the likes of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali through the exit door when he completed a £75million move to Arsenal last week.

Newcastle’s preparations for the new campaign took another shock twist when they locked horns with Leverkusen in a pre-season friendly.

Newcastle decided to bite the bullet after 25 minutes and their new violet third shirt was quickly dished out to the starting XI.

Nick Woltemade, Yoane Wissa and Sven Botman were among the stars who rushed to pull on the strip as Jaissle gave fresh instructions.

Lewis Hall, who wants to join Manchester United in a late summer deal, was also left red-faced.

And the unexpected alteration seemed to do the trick for Newcastle as they quickly drew level.

The Magpies had fallen behind inside the opening 60 seconds when Ibrahim Maza found a way past £25.7m summer arrival Lukas Hornicek.

But, not long after ditching their home shirt, Malick Thiaw grabbed an equaliser.

Newcastle are set to round off their pre-season programme by hosting Strasbourg in another friendly tomorrow.

And the Tyneside giants will get their Premier League campaign underway against Liverpool on August 23.

But Jaissle has issued an urgent plea for new signings ahead of Alexander Isak’s return to St James’ Park.
