A 62-year-old man was allegedly murdered with a sharp-edged weapon at his haveli near a tubewell in Mauli village during the intervening night of August 9 and 10. The deceased has been identified as Gurcharan Singh, a resident of Mauli village under Satnampura police station.Phagwara SP Madhvi Sharma and DSP Palwinder Singh rushed to the spot early Monday morning after receiving information about the incident. According to the SP, Gurcharan Singh had been sleeping at his haveli, situated outside the village, when an unidentified person allegedly attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon, causing fatal injuries to his neck.The murder came to light when his wife, Simranjit Kaur, went to meet him at the haveli on Monday morning. Gurcharan Singh had been staying there near the tubewell, while his wife was residing at their village house. Their son, Kulbir Singh, is reportedly abroad.SP Madhvi Sharma told this correspondent that the deceased’s body had been sent to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.Police teams reached the scene and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder. The motive behind the attack and the identity of the accused are yet to be established.The police have registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC against an unidentified person, and further investigation is underway.
