All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) mass exodus continues as another party leader and Rajya Sabha member Prakash Chik Baraik resigned as the member of the Upper House on Thursday. The development comes just a day after senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sushmita Dev resigned from the Rajya Sabha member after quitting the party.Earlier, senior party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy had resigned from both the Trinamool Congress and the Rajya Sabha. With Prakash Chik Baraik’s resignation, the Trinamool Congress’ strength in the Rajya Sabha now stands at 10.In his letter addressed to the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha CP Radhakrishnan, Baraik said, “I do hereby resign from the membership of Rajya Sabha, which may please be accepted with immediate effect”. Baraik was elected to the Upper House in August 2023.Sushmita Dev had termed “political and personal reasons” for resigning. Though she declined to elaborate further, refusing to comment on her future political plans or the party she may join next, she however, met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.Another TMC leader Shatabdi Roy expressed support for the rebel faction led by Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar. She said that those leaving the party were not doing so because of electoral defeats but due to a series of wrong decisions taken by the leadership.Shatabdi Roy also questioned the functioning of the party, alleging that party supremo Mamata Banerjee had failed to grasp the realities unfolding around her. She claimed that Banerjee was “suffering from a mental blockage” and accused her of ignoring growing public dissatisfaction with her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee. According to Roy, Mamata Banerjee failed to make Abhishek understand the need to change his lifestyle, describing it as a “big mistake.”
