One-fourth of the sanctioned posts of teacher in government schools are vacant, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Bains told the Assembly on Monday.Replying to a query raised by Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa during the Question Hour, Bains said 31,370 posts were vacant, impacting studies across schools. The minister said 20,378 posts of the master cadre and 3,733 of the lecturer cadre were currently vacant.Additionally, 4,627 ETT posts and 1,754 of special educator posts are yet to be filled.Bains claimed that 5,000 master cadre posts would be filled through promotions in August, and 90 per cent of vacant master cadre positions would be cleared over the next three to four months.600 buses to be addedTransport Minister Harpal Singh Cheema told the House that 900 new buses would soon hit the roads across the state.Responding to query, Cheema said tenders for 800 large buses had already been finalised with fabrication work underway, while 100 mini-buses were also being added to the fleet.Water Resources Minister Barinder Goyal said cattle grazing along the banks of canals remained prohibited.Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh raised concerns over GMADA’s inaction regarding the straightening of the road in front of Mata Jattvibedri Gurdwara at Sector 70, leaving Cabinet Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian struggling to provide a satisfactory answer. — TNS
