State Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Monday said he won’t resign from his post as several posters targeting him and AICC general secretary in-charge for Punjab Bhupesh Baghel surfaced in Muktsar.Muktsar is the home district of Warring and the development comes amid the escalating tussle over the party leadership with the camp led by former CM Charanjit Singh Channi.Meanwhile, for the third consecutive day, the Congress events were disrupted by sloganeering. Channi’s supporters also walked out of the Bathinda event held under the party’s ‘Har Booth, Congress Mazboot’ campaign. Later in the day, the media was not allowed at the Muktsar programme and entry to the venue was regulated.Putting his weight behind Warring, Baghel described him as a “true soldier of Rahul Gandhi” and said the Congress high command had faith in his leadership. He recalled Rahul Gandhi’s warning about “sleeper cells” within the party, saying such elements should be sidelined so that genuine Congress workers could function freely.Speaking in Bathinda, Warring said if the party high command replaced him, he would continue working to strengthen the organisation. Warring also raised slogans in support of the former CM. He invited one of his supporters onto the stage and asked him to dial the former CM’s phone number. When the call went unanswered, Warring told the supporter to save his personal phone number and contact him whenever needed.‘Bid to derail events’Warring later alleged that the sloganeering was a “pre-planned attempt” to derail the programme.“They have not come to support Channi Sahib. They have come to disrupt the programme,” he said.Without naming anyone, Warring attacked his detractors. “There is a shopping mall in Barnala that belongs to a person who has looted the Congress. He now says he will contest from Maur constituency and his son from Talwandi Sabo. I have come here after breaking the monopoly of such influential people,” he claimed.He added, “Those who have betrayed the party two or three times will not get tickets again. I will recommend block presidents, district presidents and Youth Congress activists to Baghel ji. Rahul Gandhi will distribute the tickets, but I will plead your case like a good lawyer.”Warring also alleged that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had sent people to disrupt Congress programmes.Earlier in Muktsar, posters carrying slogans such as “Remove Raja and Baghel, Save Congress”, “Go Back Baghel”, depicting Baghel as a British police officer, and appeals to bring back Channi appeared at various locations.Worker assaultedA worker installing the hoardings was allegedly assaulted. He claimed that Warring’s supporters thrashed him while he was putting up hoardings prepared by Jeeta.However, Gurmeet Jeeta, a former municipal councillor, claimed that the hoardings had been put up by local residents and alleged that Warring and his supporters had also misbehaved with him.Meanwhile, the police said they were investigating the matter. Addressing party workers in Muktsar, Warring urged workers to focus on strengthening the booth-level organisation.Backing Warring, Baghel called him as “Muktsar’s brave son”. Referring to the unrest, he recalled Rahul Gandhi’s warning about “sleeper cells” and “Vibhishans” within the party.A recorded video message of Rahul Gandhi carrying a similar message was also played during the event.
