Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday termed the students’ protests in Delhi a matter of “serious concern” and accused the Opposition of “manufacturing anger” over the issue to mislead students.The minister said, “It is extremely unfortunate that some people are attempting to use the students and youth of our country as a political tool to fulfil their political interests.”Singh said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government was fully committed to fulfilling the aspirations of students and youth and ensuring their welfare.“It is our responsibility to listen to every concern of our students and resolve it,” he said, adding that he was confident India’s youth were aware, mature and sensible enough to understand such “deceptive attempts” and would choose the path of progress, development and nation-building.“We are committed to ensuring that no injustice is done to any individual, especially our students and youth,” the minister said.Assuring the youth, he added: “We are fully sensitive to the sentiments and concerns of the youth.”He further said, “The manufactured sense of anger by some Opposition leaders is merely a failed attempt to confuse and mislead the public, especially our children and youth.”He was apparently referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who staged a dharna outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence on Tuesday evening and was later detained.“Parliament is in session and the government has also stated its willingness to hold meaningful debates on every issue. The Opposition is making an inappropriate attempt to resolve issues not in Parliament but on the streets,” Singh said.“In a democracy, Parliament is the forum for discussion on issues, where the Opposition is free to express its views,” he said, adding, “If the Opposition is serious, it should not disrupt the smooth functioning of the monsoon session and should draw the country’s attention to all issues within Parliament.”
