The viral Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which took Indian social media by storm, has now sparked a cross-border wave of satire, with similar meme-style political pages emerging in Pakistan, including the Cockroach Awami Party (CAP) and Cockroach Awami League (CAL).The CJP first emerged after remarks attributed to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant referring to certain unemployed youth engaged in activism as “cockroaches” and “parasites”, triggering widespread online debate. The Chief Justice later clarified that the comments were not directed at all unemployed youth.Shortly after, US-based public relations graduate and former Aam Aadmi Party associate Abhijeet Dipke launched the Cockroach Janta Party on May 16 through social media platforms, along with a Google Form-based membership drive. The movement quickly gained massive traction online, with its Instagram page crossing 15 million followers within days, even surpassing the official handles of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress.Although its X account was later withheld in India, it resurfaced through another handle posting, “You thought you can get rid of us? Lol”, further fueling its viral reach. The online momentum soon crossed borders, with Pakistan witnessing the emergence of similar satirical pages. One Instagram account named Cockroach Awami Party openly acknowledged its inspiration, stating in its bio: “Pakistani version of @cockroachjantaparty India.”Several similar pages, using green-and-white branding, describe themselves as a voice for “every Gen-Z” in Pakistan and position themselves as a political front of the youth, as well as an alternative to mainstream political forces. One of the Cockroach Awami Party page on Instagram also mentions in its bio: “Different Borders, Same Generation”, along with a ‘cockroach’ emoticon.Similar accounts have also surfaced on X. One handle states, “Jinhein system ne cockroach samjha, hum unhi awaam ki awaaz hain,” while another calling itself Cockroach Awami League uses the slogan “Har halaat mein zinda hain.”
