A 29-year-old youth succumbed to injuries after he was allegedly attacked with sharp-edged weapons by a group of youths in Patiala city, police officials said on Saturday.The deceased, identified as Abhishek Malik, was allegedly assaulted on May 28 in Street Number 2 of the Hira Bagh area. He sustained grievous injuries and was admitted to a government hospital for treatment. However, he died on Friday before doctors could perform surgery.According to the police, the victim’s brother, Himanshu Malik, a resident of Urban Estate, Patiala, alleged in his complaint that Abhishek had recently helped rescue a young woman who was allegedly being kept in captivity by one Gursewak Singh at his house in Chaura village. The rescue was reportedly carried out with the assistance of the village panchayat.Himanshu alleged that Gursewak Singh, who was upset over the incident and felt humiliated, conspired with five to six other youths and attacked Abhishek with sharp-edged weapons.Based on the complaint, police have registered a case under Sections 103, 191(2) and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Gursewak Singh and five to six unidentified persons at the Urban Estate police station.Police officials said raids were being conducted to arrest the accused. The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination.
