He bid farewell to City after the club’s final home game of the season, rounding off an emotional speech with an X-rated: “It has been f******g fun.”
However, in a video released by the club in the days following Guardiola’s exit, the 55-year-old broke down in tears as he heard messages sent to him by fans.
Guardiola was cheery at first and had a beaming smile as he listened to the words of the adoring City fans.
But one fan’s tale about her late father left him choking back tears.

The fan said: “Hello, Pep. I want you to know my dad, who was born in 1928, my late father used to go to Maine Road and he used to say I didn’t have a seat to myself, I had a row to myself.
“And he kept going because we are dyed in the wool blues.
“And he would’ve adored you and what you’ve done for us.
“He knows and he sees us.

“God bless you, Pep.”
As the message ended, Guardiola was seen putting his hand to his mouth and wiping away tears.
Another fan said: “You brought me ten of the happiest years of my life.
“For me to be sat next to my daughters watching the [Ilkay Gundogan] goal, watching the Real Madrid four-nil performance, watching the Treble, the quadruple and four in a row, means the world to me and my daughters.
“And for that I’ll be eternally grateful.”
After listening to all the fan voices, a teary Guardiola had a round of applause for them and parted with another message of his own.
He said: “I have to say thank you to all of them.
“That’s for sure, that all together we create emotions, otherwise the people cannot feel that.
“It’s nice when you say ‘the titles, the titles’ but what touches [you] is when you talk about fathers with daughters and the daughter whose father is not with us anymore, that’s what it’s all about.
“Titles of course have been good but all the memories we can deliver to them and them to us, that is when it makes sense.”
The video ended with Guardiola being asked whether he felt Mancunian now.
He said: “Absolutely, of course I’m part of that. I always will be.”
Reports suggest Guardiola knows what he wants for his next managerial gig and is set to ditch club football, with none other than the England job in his sights.
