The police have registered an FIR against Sonu Walia, principal of Sri Dasmesh Academy, Anandpur Sahib, for allegedly submitting and using a fake PhD degree and misrepresenting her academic qualifications.The FIR, registered at Anandpur Sahib police station, invokes Sections 419 and 420 of the IPC for alleged offences between January 1, 2020 and June 30, 2024.According to the FIR, the case follows a complaint by Bindu Sharma and others, who alleged discrepancies in Walia’s academic qualifications. DSP Anandpur Sahib said Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains ordered an inquiry after receiving the complaint.Ropar Deputy Commissioner Aditya Dachalwal constituted a committee headed by the SP and comprising the District Education Officer, Anandpur Sahib SDM and DSP. “The committee submitted its report to SSP Maninder Singh, who directed registration of the FIR,” the DSP said.The complaint alleged that Walia had mentioned a PhD in Cancer Cytogenetics from Punjabi University, Patiala, in her resume. However, verification reportedly raised questions over the authenticity and status of the qualification.
