The Punjab Government will raise Rs 1,000 crore through market borrowing on August 11, taking its estimated net borrowings during 2026-27 to around Rs 7,500 crore.In the latest round of borrowing, the state government plans to auction securities with a 17-year maturity to raise the funds. The money will be used for capital expenditure on plan schemes and other development projects under execution.According to the Budget proposals, Punjab can raise net borrowings of Rs 39,970.64 crore during 2026-27 to meet its committed liabilities and finance capital expenditure. The state had raised net loans of Rs 5,142.32 crore by June.The borrowing is expected to increase further, with the state likely to raise around Rs 13,000 crore between July and September. By the end of 2026-27, Punjab’s total debt is projected to reach around Rs 4.47 lakh crore.
