A resident of Thoba village in Ajnala has accused local traffic police personnel of extorting Rs 500 from him. The incident came to light after the victim posted a video of the incident on social media, which went viral.In the video, he said he had recently purchased a car and had come to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple, along with his family. He alleged that while they were returning after paying obeisance, two policemen signalled them to stop near Ram Talai Chowk.He alleged that the policemen told him that he can either pay Rs 25,000 for multiple challans or give “chai-pani” to them to avoid action.The victim claimed that he had only Rs 500 with him, which the policemen “forcibly” took away from him. He added that the policemen were travelling in Bolero (PB-02-ED-6718).Later, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Amandeep Kaur said one of the accused cop was immediately placed under suspension and a departmental inquiry had been initiated.Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar also assured of a strict action against the accused policemen after a thorough investigation. He said such behaviour was intolerable.
