A day after Akal Takht officiating Jathedar Kuldip Singh Gargaj announced to set up a Shaheedi Pattan Memorial at Harike Pattan to honour those whose bodies were allegedly disposed of as unclaimed during militancy in Punjab, NRIs contributed to the cause with donations worth Rs 1 crore.Indus Canada Foundation’s (ICF) Vikram Bajwa in a press release issued on Wednesday said the foundation supported the decision, documenting the records of those regarded as martyrs and persons allegedly killed or cremated as “unclaimed” during the 1982-1995 period.Bajwa said the ICF would spearhead a global fundraising campaign by mobilising its international network of Sikh organisations, gurdwaras and community leaders across the United States, Canada, UK, Australia and other countries. He announced that a dedicated global fundraising website would be launched to connect NRIs and the Sikh diaspora with the Shaheedi Memorial initiative.Bajwa expressed confidence that the collective effort would not only generate significant financial support but also unite the diaspora.
