In a shocking incident, the director of a prominent private school in the Sanjauli area of Shimla was allegedly shot dead on school premises by unidentified assailants.The deceased has been identified as Meenakshi Mittal, director of Saraswati Paradise International Public School.According to police, the incident occurred on Saturday when unidentified assailants arrived in a Punjab-registered vehicle and shot her multiple times near the school gate. She sustained three bullet injuries and died on the spot. The assailants then fled the scene.A police team reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The body was rushed to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, for the postmortem examination. The team is also examining the crime scene and checking CCTV footage to identify the assailants.SSP Shimla, Gaurav Singh, said a case under Section 103 of the BNS has been registered and an investigation has been initiated.He said that special teams have been constituted to identify and apprehend the accused, and an extensive search operation has been launched. “Police are also analysing CCTV footage from nearby areas and examining other technical evidence to trace the accused,” said the SSP.It is noteworthy that the deceased had been involved in a property-related dispute with her brother for a long time. However, the motive behind the murder is yet to be confirmed.
