The office of the Director General of School Education, Punjab, has issued a formal directive to protect students’ academic resources by prohibiting the diversion of school computers for non-educational purposes. The order, issued by the Deputy State Project Director, comes in response to reports that various government departments have been requesting to use school computer labs or borrow hardware for ongoing Census operations. In a letter to all District Education Officers (DEOs) in the state, the department highlighted several critical concerns regarding the use of these resources by outside agencies:Removing or using lab equipment hinders the regular computer education of students.   There is a significant risk of damage to school hardware. With the new admission season currently underway, computers are essential for processing student registrations. A lack of available technology could directly stall the enrolment process. In the letter addressed to all District Education Officers (Secondary Education) across Punjab, the authority explicitly stated that no department should be allowed to take computers away from schools or utilise computer labs for census or any other non-educational tasks.“Keeping in view the computer education of government school students, you are instructed not to allow any department to take computers from the school or use the computer lab for census or other non-educational work.”The directive has been circulated to all school principals and heads to ensure immediate and strict compliance. Local education authorities have already begun forwarding these instructions to their respective circles to ensure that classroom technology remains dedicated solely to student learning.
