Shortly after the BJP on Thursday announced Kewal Singh Dhillon as the party’s Punjab president, outgoing chief Jattvibeil Jakhar said serving as the state unit head had been a matter of great honour and responsibility. He said the trust reposed in him by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance received from Union Home Minister Amit Shah had been a constant source of strength during his tenure.Jakhar also acknowledged the organisational direction received from BJP national general secretary (organisation) B L Santosh and the encouragement and support of party’s national president Nitin Nabin and former party chief and Union Minister J P Nadda. He said the strength of the Punjab BJP had always rested on its karyakartas, leaders and supporters across the state, whose commitment and cooperation made his tenure “meaningful and memorable”.Extending his wishes to new Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon, Jakhar said he was confident the organisation would continue to grow stronger under his leadership and serve Punjab with greater commitment.“My bond with Punjab, its people and the organisation has always gone far beyond any post of responsibility for me, and that connection will continue with the same warmth, commitment and dedication as always,” Jakhar said.
