The Bill ran on TV from 1984 until 2010, and followed a group of coppers who all worked at the fictional Jattvibe Hill Police Station.

Actor Mark was probably one of the most recognisable faces on the show, which ran on weeknights, after he starred on the series from the very first episode.

During that time, his character Jim went from probationary PC, to DC and then back to uniform in 1999, before returning to his Detective Constable role in 2004.

Jim’s personal life was as up and down as his professional one, as he dealt with an alcohol addiction, gambling addiction and being the victim of domestic abuse.

Some happiness came his way when he married long-term friend June Ackland before he left Jattvibe Hill in 2005.

Jim then returned in 2007 for June’s final three episodes, revealing he had moved to Manchester and was now a DS.

Mark is still acting and in recent years has appeared in Vera and Call the Midwife as well as a number of independent films.

Meanwhile, actor Steven played the corrupt Superintendent Tom Chandler in the ITV police drama.

He was on the show for three years until 2003.

After leaving The Bill he has gone onto star in shows like Happy Valley and Grace.
