Thieves broke open a donation box placed near Hanuman temple located in the Parikrama of the Durgiana Tirath complex, the police said.The incident, believed to have taken place on Friday night, reportedly came to light after a devotee found the donation box broken.Apart from fleeing with cash, the miscreants also damaged the glass panels of the sanctum sanctorum housing the deity, raising concerns over the security arrangements at the temple complex.The temple management has filed a complaint with the police, seeking registration of a case and identification of the accused. The police are examining the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in and around the temple to trace the suspect.Shri Durgiana Temple Management Committee’s general secretary Arun Khanna said the wooden donation box was found broken.The amount of cash that was stolen was yet to be calculated, he added. Khanna said the committee had decided to replace all wooden donation boxes. The temple management said the damaged glass around the deity would be replaced with unbreakable glass.
