Washington DC [US], July 9 (ANI): US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (local time) said he would immediately seek a rehearing before the US Supreme Court on its birthright citizenship ruling, calling the decision a “miscarriage of justice”.In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that signs were being displayed along the US southern border and in Mexico advertising birthright citizenship.”Signs and Billboards are being put up all over our Southern Border, and Mexico, advertising BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP, with ‘Deliveries starting at $4000,'” Trump wrote. He alleged that the practice would allow people to obtain US citizenship by paying for childbirth in the country.”Billions of Dollars will be illegally made by this SCAM, with Citizenship going to anyone willing to pay. It will be, by far, the number one way of becoming a citizen, and then the entire family will be allowed to follow. Not sustainable,” he said.Declaring that “AMERICAN CITIZENSHIP IS NOT FOR SALE!”, Trump added, “The Supreme Court’s ruling is wrong. I will be asking for a Rehearing by the United States Supreme Court, IMMEDIATELY.””This miscarriage of justice will destroy America if they don’t change their absolutely insane decision,” he added.Earlier, speaking at the opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, Trump renewed his criticism of the Supreme Court’s handling of birthright citizenship while praising other recent rulings that he said restored presidential authority.”We’ll take care of the birthright citizenship because that was not meant for rich people from other countries. It was meant for the babies of slaves,” Trump said.”I believe, no, I know they got it wrong, but that’s okay,” he added. The remarks came after the US Supreme Court, in a 6-3 decision, upheld the principle of birthright citizenship, affirming that children born in the United States to parents who are unlawfully or temporarily present are entitled to automatic US citizenship under the Citizenship Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.According to CNN, the court reaffirmed its earlier precedent in United States v. Wong Kim Ark, holding that children born on US soil to foreign parents are entitled to birthright citizenship.CNN reported that one of the key arguments advanced by the Trump administration was that the Fourteenth Amendment required parents to be domiciled in the United States before their children could claim birthright citizenship.Writing for the majority, Chief Justice John Roberts said, “Citizenship, then and now, was the right to have rights — to freely participate in our political community.””The Framers of the Fourteenth Amendment extended that promise to ‘every free-born person in this land.’ We keep that promise today,” Roberts wrote, according to CNN.The ruling marked a setback for Trump, who had made ending “birth tourism” and tightening immigration policies key issues during his second presidential campaign.
