Venezuela’s Acting President Delcy Eloína Rodríguez Gómez will embark on a five-day visit to India beginning June 3, marking the highest-level engagement between the two countries in recent years and underscoring New Delhi’s efforts to strengthen ties with a key energy-rich partner in Latin America.Rodríguez, who was earlier scheduled to attend the International Big Cat Alliance Summit before it was deferred, will pay a working visit to India from June 3 to 7, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Tuesday.The Venezuelan leader will be accompanied by a high-powered delegation comprising the ministers of foreign affairs, economy and finance, science and technology, communication and information and transportation.During the visit, Rodríguez is scheduled to hold wide-ranging talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Discussions are expected to cover the full spectrum of bilateral ties, with particular focus on energy security, trade and investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transportation and renewable energy.The visit comes at a time when India is seeking to diversify its energy partnerships and deepen engagement with resource-rich nations beyond its traditional regions of focus. Venezuela, home to some of the world’s largest proven oil reserves, has long been an important energy partner for India.Indian public sector companies have invested significantly in Venezuela’s hydrocarbon sector and are keen to explore opportunities for expanding their presence. The two sides are also expected to discuss ways to boost economic cooperation amid evolving global energy and geopolitical dynamics.As part of her programme, Rodríguez and her delegation will visit facilities linked to India’s energy, pharmaceutical and automobile sectors to gain insights into the country’s industrial and technological capabilities and explore avenues for future collaboration.This will be Rodríguez’s sixth visit to India. She previously visited as Venezuela’s foreign minister in 2015 and later as Vice-President in 2019, 2023, 2024 and 2025, reflecting the sustained political engagement between the two countries.India and Venezuela share traditionally warm relations anchored in cooperation in the energy sector, growing trade ties and a common commitment to advancing the interests of the Global South.Officials said the visit is expected to impart fresh momentum to the bilateral partnership and open new avenues for collaboration across a range of strategic sectors.
