DRIVERS have been urged to avoid making this ‘split-second’ mistake – that could land them a hefty fine.
This comes ahead of the bank holiday weekend, where many are expected to make longer car journeys.

With more than 19 million motorists expected to hit the roads this weekend, holiday-goers have been warned to double check their policies before sharing driving responsibilities.
Many drivers believe that having a fully comprehensive insurance policy gives them the same level of cover when driving another car.
But it actually means your insurer will only cover damage to other people, their property and your own car.
Dayinsure, a temporary car insurance provider, stresses that it “doesn’t automatically extend to any other car you choose to drive.”

DRIVER ALERT
Could YOU be driving an uninsured car without realising
Hitting the roads with the wrong insurance could see you fined up to £300 and handed six penalty points on your license.
In some cases, it could even lead to an unlimited fine or disqualify you from driving.
Causing an accident in a car you aren’t insured on also means you will be personally responsible for any injury to others or damage to their vehicles.
To avoid this, Dayinsure suggests a ‘Driving Other Cars’ (DOC) cover in addition to your regular policy.
This allows motorists to drive a car that doesn’t belong to and isn’t hired to them, and is intended for occasional use.
Other tips include buying temporary cover or adding a named driver, to prevent penalties from ruining this bank holiday weekend.
