The BJP will ensure that Punjab farmers get minimum support price (MSP) on all crops listed by the Centre. If Haryana can provide MSP on 21 crops, Punjab can do it too, newly-appointed state BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon said, while talking to The Tribune following his appointment on Thursday.Dhillon said the BJP was emerging as a new ray of hope for the people of Punjab, who, according to him, had become disillusioned with successive state governments led by the Congress, SAD and AAP.“I can only say that the people of Punjab are tired but not defeated. They will take the right decision in 2027,” he said. “Punjab will see the ‘kamal ka phool’ in 2027. After West Bengal, it is now time for transformation in Punjab. We will form the government,” he added.Reacting to a question on the party appointing a Sikh face as the state BJP president, Dhillon said Punjabis had never differentiated on the basis of religion. “Punjabis have always lived as one,” he said.“As of now, the BJP is independently reaching out to the masses across all corners of Punjab. I cannot comment on whether the party will enter into any alliance, particularly with our former ally SAD. A final decision will be taken by the party high command. I can only say that we will stand with all like-minded partners whose top priority is the welfare of Punjab,” Dhillon said.He added that the BJP was working on an agenda aimed at bringing back the “good times” Punjab witnessed during the rule of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. “I will begin my tenure by energising party workers, especially senior leaders and old-timers, to infuse new life into the organisation,” he said.Dhillon further said the BJP wanted to reach out to people and tell them “how much Prime Minister Narendra Modi loves Punjab”.“He has always kept Punjab among his priorities. Modi withdrew the farm laws after the government could not convince farmers about the intended benefits. The exemption of GST on langar in gurdwaras and the opening of the Kartarpur Corridor are among the many initiatives taken by the Centre for Punjab,” he said.Dhillon also alleged that people in Punjab were badly affected by unchecked “gunda raj”. “We will put an end to it,” he said.
