In a serious lapse, the Kasauli Cantonment Board displayed an incorrect photograph of Param Vir Chakra awardee Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon on a newly installed commemorative board at Upper Mall on May 16. The mistake came to light after vigilant citizens and defence officials noticed the error and raised objections with the authorities.Following the complaint, the board promptly removed the photograph on Monday morning and initiated corrective measures. Officials said the old commemorative boards in the area had recently been replaced as they had deteriorated over the years, and the wrong image was inadvertently used during the printing process.A board official acknowledged the error, stating that the mistake was unintentional and regretted the lapse. He added that Flying Officer Sekhon was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest wartime gallantry award, for his extraordinary courage during the 1971 India-Pakistan war while defending the Srinagar Air Base against a Pakistan Air Force attack. The Cantonment Board also issued a clarification on its social media platforms, expressing deep respect for the martyrs and personnel of the Indian Armed Forces. It said there was no intention to cause disrespect or misrepresentation and assured that the correct photograph and information would soon be displayed. The board thanked concerned citizens for pointing out the mistake and said such feedback was essential to uphold the dignity and honour of national heroes.
