Even as the Punjab government continues to issue daily statements highlighting action under its anti-drug campaign, “Yudh Nasheyan Virudh”, questions are being raised about the ground reality, with incidents suggesting that drug addiction remains a visible problem in several parts of the state.A disturbing video that has gone viral on social media purportedly shows a young man, believed to be around 25 to 30 years old, standing in the main Jawahar Nagar Camp area of Ludhiana. In the video, the man appears to be in a disoriented state, struggling to control his movements and exhibiting unusual behaviour.Social media users have described his condition as “zombie-like.”The video has reignited concerns over the persistence of drug abuse despite the government’s ongoing crackdown on drug traffickers and alleged drug-related properties. This is not the first such incident to draw public attention. About a month ago, a video allegedly showing a couple under the influence of drugs at the Ludhiana bus stand went viral after being shared by Bikram Singh Majithia.Residents say drug addicts continue to be a common sight, raising concerns about the effectiveness of rehabilitation and enforcement measures. The question arises if they are seen by the common man why can’t the law enforcing agencies see the drug addicts and get them admitted at de-addiction centres?
