A 19-year-old pregnant woman was allegedly killed by her husband at her maternal home at Thuthianwali village near Mansa town late on Friday night over suspicion of infidelity. The deceased Simarjeet Kaur had come to her parents’ house for delivery. Her father Sewak Singh lodged a complaint to the police alleging that his son-in-law Sachpreet Singh of neighbouring Burj Rathi village slit her throat with a sharp-edged weapon before fleeing the scene.The couple had reportedly married about a year ago after having an affair while studying together at a school at Bhaini Bagha village near here. ASI Makhan Singh, in charge of the Thuthianwali police post, said that a case had been registered on the complaint of the victim’s father and efforts were underway to arrest the accused. “The girl was murdered in the washroom of her house,” he said.Meanwhile, sources said the accused had been adopted by his parents in his childhood. They added that the couple belonged to different communities. The accused’s family owned about 2.5 acres of land, while the deceased’s father was a labourer. Inspector Jaspreet Singh, SHO of Mansa Sadar police station, said the accused would be arrested and sent behind bars soon.
