The Border Security Force (BSF) and the intelligence wing of the State Special Operation Cell here seized 30 kg of heroin from two alleged smugglers in a joint operation.The heroin was seized from the Shahtirwala road on Friday evening.According to the FIR lodged in this regard, Inspector Satindeep Singh Brar, along with other personnel of the special cell and sleuths of the 55 Battalion of the BSF, was patrolling the area.After getting definite information, they intercepted two persons travelling on a motorcycle. During the search, 53 packets of heroin weighing 30.2 kg, kept in a bag, were seized from them.The accused have been identified as Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Walleshah Uttar village, and Manpreet Singh, a resident of New Hasta Kalan village in Fazilka district.Sources said the accused were in contact with smugglers based in Pakistan and used to receive heroin smuggled from the neighbouring country.The duo has been booked under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.A police official said links of the alleged drug smuggling network would be investigated.In another operation, the BSF and the Punjab Police recovered a Pakistani drone, arms and ammunition from the fields of farmer Shamsher Singh of Gehle Wala village in Fazilka.Sources said the area was cordoned off and a search operation was launched. During the search, they recovered a Pakistani drone, a China-made pistol, two magazines and four cartridges. The drone is suspected to have crashed into the paddy fields due to a technical snag, leading to the recovery of the arms and ammunition.
