The West Bengal Government on Monday constituted two inquiry committees to investigate allegations of institutional corruption and violence against women.Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said that the panels would be headed by retired judges of the Calcutta High Court and both the committees would begin their work from June 1.The first committee, tasked with examining financial irregularities and alleged ‘cut money’ and institutional corruption, will be headed by retired Justice Biswajit Basu. Senior IPS officer K Jayaraman has been appointed as the member secretary of the panel.The second committee, formed to investigate allegations of violence and atrocities against women and girls, will be headed by retired Justice Samapti Chatterjee and IPS officer Damayanti Sen has been appointed as the member secretary of this commission.The CM said the panels have been constituted to ensure a detailed and impartial investigation into the allegations. He added that action should be taken against corruption linked to both the Central and state government welfare schemes, including alleged irregularities in the mid-day meal programme and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
