The BJP-led West Bengal Government has curtailed the earlier two-day holiday schedule for Eid al-Adha (also known as Id-Ud-Zoha or Bakra Eid)), announcing through a fresh notification that the festival will now be officially observed as a public holiday only on May 28, 2026.The state government has also withdrawn the previously declared holidays on May 26 and 27, which will now be observed as working days.According to a notification dated November 27, 2025, the state government had originally declared May 26 (Tuesday) as the day before Eid and May 27 (Wednesday) as Eid al-Adha, both as public holidays. However, the administration later received updated information indicating that Id-Ud-Zoha will now be observed on May 28, 2026 (Thursday).In view of the revised schedule, the Governor, exercising powers under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, has officially declared May 28, 2026, as a public holiday on account of Id-Ud-Zoha (Bakrid), the notification said.Consequently, the earlier notifications declaring May 26 and May 27 as holidays have been withdrawn. Both days will now be treated as working days for all government offices, institutions and establishments covered under the order.
