In response to a recent surge in thefts targeting electricity wires, motors and transformers, Hirke village panchayat passed a strict resolution on Saturday to begin mandatory night patrols and severe penalties for wrongdoers. This follows a similar community mobilization on Thursday in nearby Burj Rathi village, where residents demanded a police post due to rising crime and drug concerns.Under the Hirke resolution, four villagers including two armed individuals will conduct ward-wise patrols every night, with a five-hundred-rupee fine imposed on anyone skipping their assigned duty. Furthermore, the panchayat decreed that anyone found outdoors after 9 pm without a valid reason will be questioned and physically reprimanded. Individuals caught stealing will face a one-lakh-rupee fine and a strict community boycott regarding bail assistance.While village leaders emphasized that the drastic measures are necessary to curb intolerable losses, Sardulgarh DSP Harpreet Singh said that police have already arrested three suspects and recovered stolen wire, assuring the public that investigations are ongoing.
