Gordon greeted fans and reporters outside the airport, giving a thumbs up and waving before heading to the hospital for checks ahead of sealing a five-year-deal with the Spanish champions.
Barcelona have raced to wrap up the deal, with talks intensifying on Tuesday before a fee was agreed with Newcastle on Wednesday.
Bayern Munich had also agreed personal terms with the winger but could not settle on a fee with the Magpies.
All sides have been keen to wrap up a deal before the World Cup, with Gordon set to travel to the United States with England on Monday.

Gordon flew from Newcastle airport to Barcelona at midday on Thursday, joined by agents Adam Dugdale and Will Salthouse on a private jet.
The pair had met with Barca sporting director Deco earlier this month before he flew to London this week for talks with Newcastle.
The former Everton man could be joined at Camp Nou by Julian Alvarez, the Atletico Madrid star who is also a target for Arsenal this summer.
Barca are preparing a £104m bid for the former Manchester City man, but would need to sell players to fund both his and Gordon’s arrival.

Another ex-City winger, Ferran Torres, is up for sale while former Leeds United man Raphinha could also be sold to finance Hansi Flick‘s summer spending.
Barcelona have also explored a move for Chelsea striker Joao Pedro though the Blues have made it clear they do not consider the Brazil international to be for sale.
Gordon’s arrival could impact England team-mate Marcus Rashford, who scored 14 goals in 49 appearances for Barca on loan from Manchester United this summer.
Last summer’s loan deal for Rashford, 28, included a £26m option to buy which Barcelona are refusing to activate despite wanting to keep the winger.
Talks have been held with United over reducing the fee, though they will not budge and a second loan deal is thought to be the most likely outcome.
