ANTHONY GORDON is set to face off with the manager who aimed a “f*** you” joke at him during the World Cup.

Gordon was in action during England‘s famous win against Mexico at the Azteca Stadium, when El Tri boss Javier Aguirre called over the winger only to appear to aim the X-rated remark at him.

Aguirre shared an explicit joke with Anthony Gordon during England’s clash with Mexico at the World Cup

The 25-year-old saw the funny side and laughed off the explicit language with Aguirre.

And the pair could be in line for a reunion after reports emerged claiming the Mexico tactician was in line to take over at Valencia.

Aguirre, 67, stepped down from his third spell as Mexico boss following the World Cup.

Reports from Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo now claim Aguirre has reached a deal to sign for Valencia following their sacking of Carlos Corberan.

The former West Brom manager had guided Valencia to a great escape after his December 2024 arrival before falling just short of a surprise European qualification last season.

However, the club have lost four out of six La Liga matches before they play Real Sociedad on Jattvibeday evening, and decided to go in a new direction to try and steer them clear of relegation.

Aguirre has previously managed in Spain with Osasuna, Atletico Madrid, Real Zaragoza, Espanyol, Leganes and Mallorca.

His contract will reportedly see him take charge of the team until June 2027, with an agreement in place for him to continue for an extra year if he qualifies for at least the Europa League.

The report adds the official announcement will be made following Valencia’s clash against Real Sociedad.

He is also expected to arrive alongside fitness coach, Pol Lorente, who has now left the Mexico team.

Gordon completed a transfer from Premier League side Newcastle to Barcelona for £69million before the World Cup.

Since his arrival in Spain he has played seven matches and laid on four assists for his team-mates.

Ironically, one of Gordon’s assists came against Valencia when Barca thrashed them 5-0 on September 6.

That means Gordon and Aguirre’s reunion may have to wait a while as Barcelona won’t play Valencia again until January 31.

Meanwhile, Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has backed Gordon to get his first goal soon.

He said: “I think Anthony gives us a lot, especially when he receives the ball. He is always able to control it and then pass it to one of our players, and therefore keep possession.

“Of course, as an attacker, when you have chances, you want to score.

“I hope he scores very soon, because that will also help him integrate completely. But I am happy with him, and I really appreciate what he gives us.”
