Thankfully, experts at Auto Express have compiled a useful list of the top electric vehicles currently available in the UK, and have given their verdict on the best picks on the market.
Taking the top spot was the Škoda Elroq, priced from £32,000 and chosen for its value for money, functional yet comfy cabin and roomy interior despite the vehicle’s small stature.
Auto Express experts shared that the small electric SUV is a popular choice for young families, particularly owing to its competitive price point and spacious 470-litre boot.
A few faults were raised regarding the vehicle, including its “spongy brake pedal”, lack of USB ports on lower-spec cars and an “energy efficient heat pump” that only comes as an optional extra.

However, the Škoda was the number one pick for Auto Express in the EV category, with the motoring magazine naming the vehicle its Car of the Year at the 2025 New Car Awards.
Sliding into silver was a premium choice priced at a loftier £59,500.
The BMW iX3 was the first of its kind in the company’s advanced new electric car technology and was praised for its efficiency, ride, handling and interior tech.
The SUV also offers lightning-fast charging, with its 4000kW charging capability; however, its “odd steering wheel” and “limited range of powertrains” led to the vehicle missing out on the top spot.
They added: “The ride might be slightly firm for some tastes, partly due to the standard 20″ wheels, and the steering wheel design is certainly quirky but otherwise the iX3 puts in a spotless performance.”
Rounding off the top three, the Renault 5 took bronze for its abundance of “user-friendly in-car tech”, “keen pricing” and the fact that the vehicle is “great to drive in all conditions”.
Starting from just £21,500 (with an Electric Car Grant) the compact car “claims to provide up to 252 miles of range” and was praised for its retro design and spacious interior.
“It’s one of the most desirable small cars in years,” said Auto Express, “and brings a winning combination of style, technology, and enjoyment to its segment.”
The EV lost points for its “slightly bouncy ride at lower speeds” and “high boot lid” but with its fair, and low price, the car is a great option for a small, trendy vehicle with an intuitive infotainment system.
Fourth place went to the Fiat Grande Panda, priced at £21,000 and completing the top five was the Renault 4, available from £25,500.
