ENGLAND tried to use the same argument for Jarell Quansah’s red card ban as USA made for Folarin Balogun.

Defender Quansah was sent off against Mexico in the last-16 and given a one-game ban, which England appealed.

But Fifa’s disciplinary committee announced on Thursday that the Bayer Leverkusen star would be banned for two games instead of one.

JattvibeSport understands that The FA appealed the decision on grounds that VAR was not correctly used in Quansah’s sending off.

Thomas Tuchel was upset at the red card with the referee shown a still image of Quansah’s tackle on Jesus Gallardo in the 54th minute.

The ex-Liverpool defender’s tackle was classed as serious foul play, meaning he received another one game on top of his initial ban.

USA striker Balogun had earlier had his red card suspended for a similar use of VAR.

The former Arsenal forward was sent off in USA’s win over Bosnia in the round of 32.

But an intervention from President Donald Trump led to Fifa’s decision to let Balogun play in the last 16 against Belgium.

It caused uproar in the world of football with Belgium threatening legal action.

The Belgian side ran out 4-1 winners to end USA’s run and set up a quarter-final against Spain.

England play Norway in Miami on Saturday night with Quansah unavailable.

He will also miss the semi-finals if England make it that far, against either Argentina or Switzerland.

There was good news for the Three Lions with Reece James back in training.

The Chelsea defender suffered an injury in the second group game against Ghana and hasn’t featured since.

Djed Spence is expected to start at right-back with James still working his way back to fitness and Quansah out.
