Former cricketer-turned-politician Harbhajan Singh appears to be showing no signs of backing down despite criticism from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over his social media posts. After being accused of sharing old and allegedly misleading content, the “Turbanator” on Friday reposted a video purportedly showing a few addicts preparing to inject drugs, claiming that it was recorded under Jagraon Bridge in Ludhiana. The video was originally shared by former Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu. While sharing the video, Bittu wrote: “Video of Open Drug Use Under Ludhiana’s Jagraon Bridge Exposes the Ground Reality — A video showing young men openly injecting drugs under Ludhiana’s Jagraon Bridge has exposed serious lapses in security and law enforcement.”The Ludhiana police’s reaction to the alleged video was awaited. This is not the first time Harbhajan has faced criticism over his social media posts.Earlier, the AAP Rajya Sabha MP, who recently switched to the BJP, had shared a video showing two men purportedly using drugs. The video was later found to have been recorded in Rajasthan. The Punjab Police subsequently clarified that it was shot in Ganganagar, Rajasthan, and had no connection with Punjab.Harbhajan later said the fact that the video was from Rajasthan did not mean that the drug menace did not exist in Punjab.Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema had subsequently threatened to take legal action against Harbhajan over the post.Harbhajan was also criticised recently after a video highlighting the dilapidated condition of a government school in Fatehgarh Sahib turned out to be from 2018.State Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains had visited the school a day after Harbhajan shared the post, showcased its transformation and accused the BJP of indulging in propaganda. While reposting the latest video on his X handle, the former India off-spinner said, “The Jagraon bridge is in Rajasthan, tell me paid trollers?? Now these paid trollers will even prove this video to be from Ganganagar.”In May, Harbhajan had stunned the AAP and stirred the political pot in Punjab by accusing the party of “selling” Rajya Sabha tickets. In a post on X, he had written: “To those calling me a traitor, first ask your own people how much the Punjab Rajya Sabha seat was sold for. I’ll tell you who got how much bribe and from whose side. And how someone was made a minister or watchman to loot Punjab and deliver goods to Lala.”
