After nearly four years of efforts and struggle, success has been achieved for Sikh employees in Canada who have long faced difficulties in maintaining their religious identity in the workplace.Karambir Singh Kang, a resident of village Kang in the town of Dhariwal in Gurdaspur district, has achieved a historic feat of becoming the first Sikh marine engineer to be appointed in Canada with a full beard. There were many rules, especially regarding beard and turban, which became a hindrance for Sikhs. In this case, the way to remove the discriminatory rules was cleared after an agreement was reached between the World Sikh Organization and the BC Ferries and Marine Works Union. This resulted in Karambir Singh being appointed as a Marine Engineer with a full beard at BC Ferries. In the same vein, Gurpreet Singh Bajwa has become the first turbaned Sikh deck officer and captain at the organisation. This achievement is considered a significant step for the Sikh community, allowing them to advance in professional fields without compromising their faith.Danish Singh, President of the World Sikh Organization, expressed his joy at this achievement.
