A 26-year-old man, originally from Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh, has died by suicide in the United States, according to multiple reports.Iraganaboyina Chandu had recently completed his master’s degree from DePaul University in Chicago and previously earned his BTech from CMR College of Engineering in Hyderabad. He had also worked as a software developer at Dell last year.Reports suggest that Chandu had been struggling with unemployment after finishing his studies and had been actively searching for a job for several weeks. During this period, he was reportedly under significant stress due to financial pressure and uncertainty about his future. He is also said to have been deeply concerned about his family’s financial condition in India, particularly as his father works as a security guard and has limited income. Friends and acquaintances describe that he had hoped to secure stable employment soon so that he could support his family.Following his death, members of the Indian community in the United States initiated a fundraising campaign to assist with the repatriation of his mortal remains to India and to support funeral arrangements. The campaign, started by his friend Rajesh Gurram, aims to raise approximately $120,000.According to the fundraiser details, the estimated cost of transporting his body from the US to India, including funeral home services, legal documentation, and shipping, is around $25,000. Any additional funds raised beyond this amount are intended to help support Chandu’s parents and address debts left behind. In a message shared on the fundraising page, Chandu was described as a kind, generous, and supportive individual who was well-regarded among his friends and family. The statement also highlighted that he had arrived in Chicago with hopes and ambitions similar to many international students, but his struggles ultimately became overwhelming. The incident has also drawn attention from public representatives. A social media appeal reached Andhra Pradesh politician Nara Lokesh, who expressed condolences and requested Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu to ensure smooth arrangements for the transportation of the body.Noted, @saibollineni garu. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. I request @RamMNK to kindly ensure the smooth and hassle-free transport of the mortal remains. https://t.co/lsjNKVYSN9— Lokesh Nara (@naralokesh) May 1, 2026The minister responded that he had spoken to the concerned individuals and was coordinating with authorities to expedite the process.
