The police have uncovered disturbing details in the rape and murder of a 22-year-old woman in South Delhi’s Amar Colony, revealing that the accused allegedly attempted to unlock a biometric locker using the victim’s fingerprint after the assault. The victim, an IIT graduate and daughter of a senior Internal Revenue Service (IRS) officer, was alone at home on the morning of April 21 while her parents were out. The accused, Rahul Meena, a former domestic help, is alleged to have entered the house and gone directly to the rooftop study, where she was present.According to investigators, when the victim resisted his attempt to overpower her, Meena struck her with a heavy lamp, leaving her unconscious. Police said he then sexually assaulted her.During questioning, the accused reportedly disclosed that he dragged the unconscious victim down the stairs to a lower floor where a biometric locker was kept. He allegedly tried to unlock it using her thumbprint, but the system failed to recognise it — possibly due to blood stains or lack of circulation.Police said the accused then broke open the locker with a screwdriver, stole cash and jewellery, and changed his blood-stained clothes and slippers before fleeing the scene. As per investigators, the accused is repeatedly changing his statements about the motive behind the murder.
