RUBEN AMORIM admits he made many mistakes during his 14 months at Manchester United.
New AC Milan coach Amorim was sacked by United in early January after an extraordinary press conference in which he demanded to be referred to as the ‘manager’.

The Portuguese was referring to a meeting he attended with director of football Jason Wilcox two days earlier, in which Wilcox was critical of Amorim’s management in the 1-1 draw with Premier League bottom club Wolves.
Wilcox had also likened his role to a “manager” to staff at Carrington, which Amorim had got wind of.
Amorim took over amid much fanfare in November 2024 but recorded only 24 victories from his 63 games in charge of United. The club finished 15th and trophyless in 2024-25 – their worst season in 51 years.
Amorim will face his old club in a pre-season friendly in Wroclaw on August 15 and the Portuguese spoke about his time in Manchester at his Milan unveiling.

“I made mistakes in Manchester. It’s hard for me to list them all,” Amorim said. “I can say I’ve learned a lot.
“Things have changed now and there are many things I can do better because I’ve gained experience.”
United chief executive Omar Berrada said at a convention last month that Amorim was too rigid and failed to adapt.
“I think maybe where he got stuck is the size of the club. The scrutiny of your ideas and decisions is so constant that perhaps he struggled managing that.

“Not that it was too big for him, but he maybe cornered himself in a position where he wanted to stick in a very rigid manner to his ideas because he wanted to show everybody that it’s going to work.
“And in the context of the volatility of emotions you get by being part of Manchester United, when you lose two or three games in a row, then it’s the end the world.
“So I think that was very hard to manage.”
Amorim was infamous for swearing by a 3-4-2-1 formation despite its lack of success in English football.
Chelsea under Antonio Conte in 2016-17 are the only club to win the Premier League title with that set-up.
