The Lok Sabha on Tuesday saw the passage of two key Bills through voice vote without any discussion within 14 minutes.One Bill was for renaming the state of Kerala as Keralam, while the other was aimed at seeking to expand the role of the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) in financing India’s cooperative sector.The two Bills were passed amid noisy protests from the Congress-led Opposition, which has been seeking Home Minister Amit Shah’s presence in the House over the police crackdown on the students protesting against NEET paper leak issue last month.The Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026 was passed in four minutes and the National Co-operative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026 was passed in 10 minutes.The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day soon after the Bills were passed.Later, while speaking on the deadlock in Parliament, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the government is ready to discuss the issue of students’ protests and the Home Minister is also ready with his response. However, the Opposition is running away from the discussion and protesting inside and outside Parliament.
