A MAN has been arrested after a car struck pedestrians in a busy town centre leaving one fighting for his life in hospital.
Emergency services were called to Market Place in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, at just after 1pm on Saturday following reports a red Vauxhall Astra had collided with a group of people.

One man remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries, while four other men suffered minor injuries.
A team of detectives have been working on the investigation and a suspect was arrested yesterday evening.
A 40-year-old man is being held on suspicion of attempted murder.
Counter Terrorism Police are not involved in the investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow, who is leading the investigation, said: “We have shared this important update with the family of the seriously injured man and they are being supported by specialist officers.
“We would ask that people do not speculate about the circumstances around the incident and respect the privacy of those involved.
“Our investigation remains ongoing and we are keeping an open mind while these extensive inquiries continue.
“We’d like to thank those members of the public who have shared information with us but still want to hear from anyone else who can assist.
“Anyone who has relevant dashcam, CCTV, doorbell or mobile phone footage should also get in touch and share it with the investigation team.
“All road closures in the area have now been lifted and we’d like to thank local people for their understanding.”
Rachael Bailey, Divisional Senior Manager for Nottinghamshire at East Midlands Ambulance Service said yesterday: “We received a call at 1.09am on Saturday May 9 to Market Place in Arnold.
“We sent the Hazardous Area Response Team, three ambulances and two paramedics in solo response cars, supported on scene by a senior manager and critical care teams. Three patients were taken to Queen’s Medical Centre.”
Local MP, Michael Payne, said in a statement yesterday that he had been in close contact with police on a “serious incident”.
“I would urge everyone not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding this incident while this important police work continues,” he added.
“I have sought reassurances from Nottinghamshire Police regarding ongoing community safety in and around Arnold, and I will continue to liaise closely with police colleagues throughout the weekend.
“I know this will be upsetting and worrying news for many of us who call Arnold home. I will endeavour to keep the local community informed and updated as the investigation and police work progresses.”
