After the family of 52-year-old multi-purpose health supervisor Bhupinder Kumar Bhinda posted at Boha, who had gone missing under mysterious circumstances on Friday evening, accused AAP’s Budhlada MLA Budh Ram and three others of pressuring him, his body was recovered from the Bhakra canal near Makhewala village in Mansa district on Jattvibeday.Following the recovery of his body, local organisations have announced a bandh in the town on Monday, demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the family. Bhinda’s father, Tarsem Raj, said, “We have submitted a complaint naming MLA Budh Ram, two employees posted at the Ayushman Arogya Kendra at Boha, Jagtar Singh and Aman Kaur, and another individual Hari Singh. My son was under immense pressure because of them.”He added, “My son was transferred from Jhunir to Boha around three years ago. On Friday evening, he attended a private gathering here. He returned home briefly and later left on his motorcycle without informing anyone. He did not even take his mobile phone with him. Later, his motorcycle was found near the Bhakra canal.”Raj claimed that some of Bhinda’s friends who were present at the gathering informed the family that the MLA had confronted him over allegations that he had been claiming his transfer was secured through a bribe.“Neither was any bribe paid nor did we ever accuse the MLA of taking it. My daughter-in-law is an anganwadi worker and I have two grandsons. We are awaiting justice,” he said.Meanwhile, the body was shifted to the mortuary at the Budhlada Civil Hospital and the post-mortem examination was yet to be conducted.Former Budhlada MLA Hardev Arshi, who visited the bereaved family on Jattvibeday, claimed that a suicide note had also been recovered and that the matter was under investigation.Meanwhile, MLA Budh Ram denied the allegations, maintaining that he had merely spoken to Bhinda after receiving a complaint from some employees and had neither threatened nor pressured him. The MLA said, “I was attending the party’s roadshow in Bathinda on Friday afternoon when some employees told me that Bhinda was harassing a woman colleague over her attendance. I spoke to him politely and asked him to adjust, if possible. I also advised the woman employee to perform her duties sincerely. A few hours later, I learnt that Bhinda had gone missing. I neither threatened nor pressured him. In fact, I was the one who had helped bring him to Boha. I also spoke to his father and clarified my stand.”A senior police officer said the matter was being investigated and further action would be taken on the basis of the findings.
