A 44-year-old man was killed in a road accident in the Italian town of Castiglione delle Stiviere on Friday.The deceased was identified as Ranveer Singh, a resident of Nangal village in Moga district. He had been living in Italy with his family for the past 26 years.According to information, Ranveer had gone to a market along with his wife and children to buy books for the kids. He parked his car on the roadside and crossed over to a shop on the other side.While returning after making the purchase, he was hit by a speeding car while crossing the road. He was rushed to hospital with critical injuries but succumbed during treatment. His wife and children were present at the scene when the accident occurred.Ranveer’s father, Jagjit Singh, a retired veterinary inspector, said Ranveer was the eldest of his three sons and had moved to Italy in 2000 for work, where he was employed at a hosiery factory.His two younger brothers live in Australia. Ranveer is survived by his wife, Satbir Kaur and three children — two daughters, aged 19 and 12, and an eight-year-old son.His wife and children hold Italian citizenship, while Ranveer himself had declined to take citizenship.Jagjit Singh said the family had spoken to Ranveer over the phone a day before the accident. He appealed to the government to grant him and his wife a visa so they could travel to Italy and bring back their son’s mortal remains, saying the family was alone in Italy and needed support during this difficult time. Ranveer’s mother also made an emotional appeal to the government for help in bringing back her son’s body.
