Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the BRICS summit here on September 12 and 13, the Russian Embassy in South Africa said in a post on X, citing Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov.“President of Russia Vladimir Putin will attend the BRICS summit in New Delhi on September 12-13,” the post said.India will host the annual BRICS summit in September as Chair of the grouping.The last time Putin visited New Delhi was for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit held in December 2025.Earlier this month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited New Delhi to participate in the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting. Addressing a press conference later, Lavrov said Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit Russia later this year.“We are preparing for the BRICS summit. Prime Minister Modi yesterday reaffirmed that this year it is his turn to visit the Russian Federation. We will be preparing for this top-level summit,” Lavrov had said.BRICS, originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, expanded in 2024 to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates, with Indonesia joining in 2025.BRICS has emerged as an influential grouping, bringing together 11 major emerging economies that account for nearly 49.5 per cent of the world’s population, around 40 per cent of global GDP and approximately 26 per cent of global trade.
