To keep youngsters away from drugs, the Bathinda district administration has decided to form sports teams in all 27 drug hotspots in the district.While presiding over a meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) here today, Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Dhiman said, “Along with the District Sports Office (DSO), the police will form teams for games such as volleyball, handball and basketball. This initiative will not only help children stay engaged in sports but also turn them into healthy and confident individuals,” said the DC. Meanwhile, Bathinda SP (City) Narinder Singh said that during the month of May, the police had registered 144 cases under the NDPS Act and arrested 187 accused. “The police have recovered 1.64 kg of heroin, 121.9 kg of poppy husk, 6,403 sedative pills and capsules, 1.01 kg of ganja, and Rs 8.25 lakh in drug money,” said the SP. He further claimed that the police and the Education Department had organised a number of anti-drug awareness activities, including seminars, lectures, slogan-writing competitions and painting competitions.
